Questions, answered

Everything people ask about Wandering Stars: how it plays, what it costs (nothing), and what happens to your data (nothing).

The game

What is Wandering Stars?

A beat-driven routing puzzle for iPhone and iPad. Creatures called stars walk one square per beat. You place arrows, nap cones and gloop on the board, tap Boot, and watch 16 beats play out. Get every star into the black hole of its colour to clean the sky.

Is it really free?

Yes. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no levels you have to pay to unlock.

When can I download it?

Wandering Stars is coming soon to the App Store. Every download button on this site opens the App Store, and the page will go live there at launch.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 15 or later. There is no Android version.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. Every level plays offline, and your progress is saved on your device.

Playing

I'm stuck on a level. Any tips?

Drag along the beat bar before you Boot: the board shows exactly where every star stands on each beat, and squares where two stars would meet glow. Remember that a turn at an edge or wall uses up a beat, and that a piece only acts on a star the moment it steps on.

If a run fails, Rewind keeps your pieces so you can adjust just the part that went wrong.

What is a smoosh?

When two stars land on the same square on the same beat, they fuse into a single blob with a new name. It is recorded in your Smoosh Book. A blob can't fill a black hole and wrecks any hole it walks over, so a smoosh usually costs you the level.

What makes a fusion cursed?

A smoosh that happens on beat 4, 8, 12 or 16, the chord beats, comes out cursed, with inverted colours and a name ending in SKRAA. Cursed fusions have their own tab in the Book.

What are board codes?

After a run, copy the short code on the result card. Anyone can paste it into Settings > Board codes to load that exact board with the same pieces. Codes use letters and numbers without I, L, O or U, so they are easy to read out loud.

Can I see the tutorial again?

Yes. Open Settings > Help > How to play to replay the intro and the guided tutorial board.

How do I start over?

Open Settings > Progress > Reset progress and tap it a second time to confirm. It clears every level and the Smoosh Book on your device. Your settings stay as they are.

Privacy and data

What data does the game collect?

None about you. There are no accounts, analytics or ad trackers. Your progress, Smoosh Book and settings are stored on your device. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Why would the app ask for camera or photo access?

Only if you choose to attach a photo to a message in Settings > Help > Contact us. Picking from your library uses the private system picker, and the camera opens only when you tap it.

How do I delete my data?

Use Settings > Progress > Reset progress, or delete the app, which removes everything it stored on your device.

Support

How do I report a bug or share an idea?

Use the contact form, email support@wanderingstars.com, or open Settings > Help > Contact us in the app, where you can attach a screenshot.

What accessibility options are there?

Music, sound effects and haptics each have their own switch, and Reduce motion calms animations (it also follows your iPhone's own setting). Star colours are tuned by lightness as well as hue so they stay distinct with common forms of colour blindness.

Still wondering?

We read every message.
